AHS 9th Grade Football runs the table
The
2011 Albemarle High School freshman football team completed a perfect
9-0 season. The balanced offensive attack averaged 31 points per game,
and never scored fewer than 22. The Patriots dominated at the point of
attack. The offensive line featured tackles Tyler Melton, Robert Wick,
and Brett Eubank, guards Minor Smith and Noah Trader, and center Andrew
Mayo. This group allowed running backs Quordel Carter, Dlondre
Minifield, Malcolm Wills, and Sam Denham to run the ball with ease
throughout the season. Quarterback DG Archer had a terrific season,
finding receivers Justin Moran and Andrew Hogg to be especially valuable
weapons on the outside.
On
defense, the Patriots used the speed of linebackers Alex Frazier,
Moran, Carter, Minifield, and Smith to frustrate opponents, holding them
to an average of 10 points per game. Up front, Sam Casey, Ronnie
Costain, and Brett Eubank led a ferocious defensive line that pressured
opposing quarterbacks and shut down their rushing attacks in the
backfield. This unit progressed throughout the season, playing their
best ball toward the end of the season. In the last 7 games of the
season, the defense allowed multiple scores only twice, with one of
those being a last-second heave on the last play of a game that was
30-8. The playmaking and pressure of the defense allowed the Patriots
to get their opponents off the field quickly and get the ball back to
the potent offense.
Despite
being a marked team all year, the Patriot freshman team remained
focused on each opponent and improved throughout the season, playing
their best football toward the end. In a three-game stretch toward the
end, Albemarle defeated previously-unbeaten Brooke Point 30-12,
Riverbend 36-8, and Monticello 44-6. The team featured many players
that will very soon be making their marks on Friday night with the
varsity team. With the talent on this team, the future is bright for
Albemarle Patriot football.
