The Commonwealth District has announced their volleyball pairings for their tournament starting Thursday.
1st Place:  North Stafford.  15-1  Their only loss came to Colonial Forge last week 3-1.
2nd Place:  Colonial Forge:  13-3.  They tied with Riverbend, but ended up 2nd due to their win over North Stafford.
3rd Place:  Riverbend  13-3
4th Place:  Massaponax:  10-6
5th Place:  Albemarle:  9-7
6th Place:  Brooke Point:  6-10
7th Place:  Mountain View:  4-12
8th Place:  Stafford or Orange 1-15.

As
usual, the pairings are 1 vs. 8, 2 vs.7, 3 vs.6, and 4 vs. 5 for the
first round playoff game.  The lower seed travels to the higher seed.
If you lose in the first round, your season is over.  Albemarle will
be traveling to Massaponax to play on Thursday at 6:00pm.
Now, this is the change this year.  If AHS wins on
Thursday, they will play the winner of the 1 vs. 8 matchup.  If they were to
win that match as well, then AHS would definitely go to Regionals the
following week.  However, in a new twist, if AHS lost the 2nd round
match, there is a possibility that they could end up playing the loser
from the other 2nd round match for a spot in the Regional Playoffs.  The
Region is taking 3 teams from each District this year instead of the
traditional 2, so an extra match may be needed to determine the 3rd
place team.
