Although
the Charlottesville Black Knights boys lacrosse team was expected to be
much improved this season it still is a surprise that they are the only
area team left standing. They travel to Roanoke tonight to play Patrick
Henry at 7pm. This will be the first meeting in at least 8 years, if
not ever. The Patriots (14-2) are ranked # 4 in AAA/AA teams in Virginia
by Laxpower.com versus CHS’s #14. Their only 2 losses are to E.C.
Glass, who also defeated CHS back in March. The Patriots did play Glass 3
times and won once. The other common opponents were Albemarle, WAHS,
and Salem who defeated CHS in March as well. The resurrection of the
CHS program began when AD Rick Lilly hired Drew Craft to take over the
program in 2010.  Craft had back to back six win seasons and then broke
through this year with a 12 win season against 5 losses so far. In 2005
Dave Zentmyer’s CHS program won 9 games and lost to Salem this same
weekend for a chance to go to state. Patriot Field is an artificial
surface installed in 2007.
