Busy & productive fall for area teams

It
has been a busy fall and the hard work that so many young athletes put in is
now paying dividends. In the Commonwealth District Albemarle boys cross
country won the Commonwealth and came in 2nd in the NW region Thursday.
Adam Visokay won his farewell meet in a personal best time on the
course, AHS girl’s XC came in 2nd in the Commonwealth but Ciera Ulan
finished 10th in the region and will advance to the AAA state
championship. The AHS girl’s volleyball team was eliminated 1 victory
shy of making the NW regional tournament. Western has had a year and we
are only a 3rd of the way through school. Their boys cross country just
won the Region II championship, girls volleyball won the JD tournament
over Powhatan. Their field hockey plays Saturday for the Region II
championship but will be advancing regardless. WAHS golf won the state
championship. Monticello won the Region II golf title and the
JD Cheer title. Fluvanna girls won the JD in cross country and Nikki
Douma qualified for state. JD runnerup Monticello’s Michelle Hermsmeier,
WAHS’s Annie Taylor, and Powhatan’s Rachel will advance as individual
participants at state. Fluvanna XC runner Chris Markham qualified as an
individual for the Region II championship and then did it again and
qualified for state by virtue of his finish in the Region II meet.
Nelson County volleyball won the Dogwood Tournament championship last
night after finishing 2nd in the regular season. CHS's field hockey lost to WAHS in the Region II field hockey tournament semi's. Tandem boys soccer won
the Delaney Athletic Conference championship. Covenant & STAB
are playing for the LIS field hockey championship today. Covenant boys
soccer begins their quest for a VISAA Division II state title at home
November 4th against Richmond Christian.
