CHS 9th, JV boys & girls all win at MHS

CHS basketball had a good night Thursday at Monticello. The freshman team completed their season sweep of MHS, winning 49-35 in the last game of 3 this season. CHS trailed the entire first half, closing the gap to 4 at the break. In the 3rd period CHS went on a 17-2 run that put the game away. This snaps a 2 game skid for the Black Knights. Next up is a road game against the  STAB JV on Tuesday the 24th. The Lady Black Knights JV started slowly, leading 22-16 at the half and only scoring 8 points in the 3rd period. However freshman Nyea Shelton went off, scoring a game high 28 points, and CHS (10-5) pulled away to win 50-25. The defense for the Lady Black Knights was stifling in the 2nd half, hold the Lady Mustangs to 9 points. The CHS (8-4) boys JV defeated MHS 76-68. It was a fantastic basketball game, with neither able to get control until the 4th quarter. CHS appeared to have put the game away with under 2 1/2 minutes left but MHS used a devastating press to get 3 turnovers in a row and convert them and to tighten the collars on CHS's coaching staff. Isaiah Green of CHS was able to stop the comeback by hitting several clutch free throws to keep it a multiple possession lead. The varsity teams play tonight at CHS, starting at 6.
