Fluvanna’s
9U Cal Ripken Virginia State Champion has survived pool play at the
Southeast Region tournament in Morganton, NC. They entered the single
elimination phase of the tournament with a 3-1 record, having only lost
to the team representing Sarasota, Florida. They lost that game 5-3.
Both they and Sarasota (4-0 in pool play) moved on. On July 23rd
Fluvanna defeated Orange Park, Florida 8-7. Sunday the 24th they will
play Sarasota at 1 pm. Sarasota defeated the other Virginia team, Glen
Allen, 12-9 Saturday. If Fluvanna wins they will immediately move to the
championship game against the winner of the “directional” semifinal
game, featuring West Raleigh, NC., versus West Ashley, SC. The SE
Regional Championship game will be at 4 pm. Regardless of it turns out
the Fluvanna run has been quite remarkable. They were 8-0 in regional
and state play and are currently 4-1 in regional play. Score updates will be available on YSN and our twitter feed (YouthSportsNow).
