The Game
If only they could have played on Friday this year. The 111th game on 11/11/11. At
2 o’clock Saturday afternoon in Alexandria, the nation’s longest
consecutively played high school football rivalry will renew. Woodberry
Forest & Episcopal will play for the 111th time since 1901. Like the
Army-Navy game the two schools live to beat each other. Show up big in
this game and you will always be toasted at any gathering of 2 or more
graduates. Some of the stories with a connection to this game are bigger
than “The Game” itself. Into that group there is this one.
Mike Reily graduated from Woodberry and went on to star at Williams
College. His life ended way too soon but he has been honored in peculiar
way every fall since his death by Williams in an unofficial manner. The
series record is 54-48-8 in Woodberry’s favor. Since Woodberry does not
participate in post season football, their season always ends with
Episcopal. Live audio will be provided by Woodberry and the game will be
also videostreamed courtesy of Episcopal. The links are at http://www.woodberry.org/thegame .
