WAHS Girls Lax look to deny Freedom in semi's after lashing Loudon
The
Western Albemarle girls lacrosse team faced Loudon County in the
Regional Quarter-finals just like they did last year at this time. WAHS
scored their first 3 goals in the first 6 minutes and then LC got their
first goal 30 seconds later. WAHS and LC went goal for goal for the
next 4 minutes of play until the score was 5-3. Then the Warriors found
their stride and scored 9 unanswered goals to end the half 14 - 3. The
second half started again with each team going goal for goal over the
first 15 minutes; each team scoring 2 goals. Then Western finished
strong with 3 more goals to end the game at 19 - 5. The defense kept
Loudon County to a total of 14 shots and two western goalies had 10
saves between them. WAHS is 15-2 on the season and move onto the
Semi-Finals of the Regional Tournament at home on Wednesday, May 25th at
6pm against Freedom High School who beat Kettle Run to move on to the
semi-finals. At the half WAHS led 14 - 3 and the final 19 - 5. For
Western the scoring was as follows: Ellen Shaffrey 7 goals, 2 assists;
Anna Liebowitz 1 goal, 6 assists; Jeanette Fellows 5 goals, 1 assist;
Mady Baker 2 goals, 2 assists; Stewart Summers 3 goals; Peyton Brandt 3
assists; Bridget Shaffrey 1 goal; Janie Day Whitworth 1 assist. WAHS
also had 18 draw controls versus Loudon’s 8. Goalies Christine Fortner
and Maya Langman had 7 & 3 saves respectively. The semi’s will be
played Wednesday at WAHS at 6 pm.
