Woodberry wrestlers do well at Prep Nationals
The Woodberry Forest Tigers wrestling squad made the trip to the National Prep tournament this weekend. The team had a great weekend and placed 20th out of the 110 teams at the match.
Woodberry wrestlers Brandon Walker, Duke Pickett, Taylor Ruess, and Cary Jones all made the trip and pulled heavily for the Tigers against some of the Nations premiere wrestlers.
Taylor Ruess mad it all the way to the semi-finals match before he had to injury default. After injuring his shoulder he wisely took the advice of medical staff and finished sixth place. He also earned the title of Prep All-American.
Duke Pickett placed fourth in his weight class and also earned two time Prep All-American honors. Duke now holds the Woodberry record for the most wins in a season with 48 and the career wins record with 156 as he wrestled his last matches for Woodberry.
Woodberry's Cary Jones went 2 and 2 over the course over the tournament and Freshman Brandon Walker finished one spot out of placing in the tournament.
