Valley Honda Scholar Athlete of the Month

Richard Washington

Athlete of the Month:
September, 2010

As a senior at Charlottesville High School, Richard Washington is well aware this is his last tour of duty on the gridiron. Today, he is ready to leave Charlottesville High's football past behind him and move forward into 2010 with one goal on his mind.

"Personally, I want to be undefeated in the Jefferson District," said Washington, the YouthSportsNow.com Athlete of the Month." I think that's a goal we can accomplish."

Confident. Intelligent. Well-spoken. Hungry. These adjectives epitomize Washington. As a leader at CHS, Washington wants these adjectives to epitomize the Charlottesville High School football program.

"We're a young team, but we're a hardworking team," Washington explained. "We try our best on the field to represent our school."

Chris Frazer, the head football coach at CHS, has certainly been impressed with Washington.

"Almost all our players are just like Richard. We're excited about that," said Frazer, who is entering his third year at CHS. "It's a credit to their parents and our community."

Both Frazer and Washington indicated that CHS must bond as a family to be successful in 2010.

"[CHS Football] needs to work hard together and play as a team," Washington said. "We need to do our best to win football games."

Frazer added: "We have to get better every week, one step at a time."
